Nomenclature

Glechoma is derived from Glechon, Greek for a type of Mint, as the leaves resemble plants in the genus Mentha. Hederacea alluding to Ivy, genus Hedera. Hence the name Ground Ivy.

Other use

Used by the Saxons in brewing beer as flavoring, clarification, and preservative, before the introduction of hops for these purposes; thus the brewing-related names, alehoof.
