Medicinal

The related species T. vulgaris has traditional use as a pungent and warming remedy to aid chills and lethargy and to lift the spirits. Thyme contains an essential oil and flavonoid components that are considered to contribute to the antispasmodic, antiseptic, expectorant and cough-relieving effects of the plant.
