Exhibition notes

Her exhibition entitled ‘Medicinal Plant Iconography: paintings by Mayumi Hashi’ exemplified the precision of modern botanical illustration. Her paintings were displayed alongside early woodcuts and engravings of medicinal plants. Together they charted the evolution of medicinal plant iconography and identification. The exhibition also included a commentary on the properties and medical uses of the plants illustrated, including treatments for cancer and heart failure, and an insight into the painting techniques and materials used by the artist.
